Premiere of “Shake It Like You Mean It” on The Big Takeover

The Big Takeover has shared the premiere of the video for “Shake It Like You Mean It”.

An anthem to “just doing it,” rolling the dice, leaving it up to fate, and perhaps the wider public to decide if you have what it takes, it’s a great message, especially in this age where poise and polish and perfection are seen as tantamount. Of course, it is also a great song.

And a great song requires a great video, in this case a blend of silly silent movie clips juxtaposed with slick band performance footage, echoing the song’s own balance of wit and wisdom.

Push Puppets July cover story in Illinois Entertainer

Push Puppets are honored to be the cover story for the July issue of Illinois Entertainer. IE has been a powerhouse in Chicago music coverage for decades. Ashley Perez met with Erich Specht of Push Puppets to talk about the new album and how the music gets made.

Just one listen to the opening track “Similar” shows how the band can’t be pigeon-holed. It opens with a rocking guitar layered by swelling strings. Later, we are treated to light piano flourishes that build anticipation. There’s even a brief synth break to liven things up. On paper, it sounds disjointed and messy, yet it’s cohesive.
